Flame arrestor

I have seen a flame arrestor image on a site somewhere but I do not remember where it was. This arrestor was constructed of PVC (Ithink) and it looked like it had stainless steel whool packed inside of it???

Does anyone know the dimensions and construction of this unit and weater or not it is worth building one like it?

OR

A suggestion for a better low cost unit or maybe an off the shelf device that is a proven arrestor to use with Hydrogen Reactors?

Boats are required in many states by the us coast guard to have a falme arrestor between the air suply and the intake manifold.

These arrestors are simply oil soaked cotton air breathers, with wire mesh around the outside. That simple.
K&N makes them for about 40-50 dollars. Some however, are far more expensive.

Also there are the industrial type flame arrestors. Now those are expensive. I have called two companys, that make these industrial arrestors. The tech. reps. have asured me that the boat type air cleaner, would be fine for hydrogen, and vapor type aplications.

To reiderate, the arrestors ment for boats, are a reusable air breather, (cotton, not paper element). Must have wire mesh type reinforcement, and must be oil soaked. These are available in JC Whitney, ON LINE, and @ autozone. Typicaly used in riceys (a cone shaped filter), or race cars (a circle style filter).

The piont is that air and gas can go in, and flames or spark and heat can not get out.

Rhodes suggests using steel wool or two aquarium air stones as flame arrestors. The ceaspest solution would be a cigarette filter. I have also seen a tube with water in it or even a double water tube.
