7 serie cell

Postby Sdc77 » Fri Feb 03, 2006 11:36 am

Hello all.
Sorry for my bad and poor english, i'm french and we are working on electrolysis like Meyer, Eccles and hydro-boosting.
Here is our frenchy forum :

I am actualy making an hydro booster based on 7 serie cell but i have some troubles.
You can see it here :
It is 11cm x 29cm, 3 mm thickness between Inox 304L plates.
The cell is temporaly fiting in my testing car : a 1989 Citroen BX with a 1,8L turbo diesel engine and about 400 000 km !!
For first tests on my cell, i put it on a car batterie with a batterie charger. I put in my cell 20% KOH (i don't know how pure, but there is some alcool in it) with demineralysed water and put only 6 cells (7 plates) : at 13,64V and 11,5A i get 1L in 1min = 60 Liters / Hour.
So i put it in my car and : the engine turning on, the alternator is 14,34V and the cell is 20A and more (i cut it because the engine rpm decrease).
Then (yesterday to be exact) i put back in it the 8th plate to have a 7 serie cell and it's only 5Amps consumption

What can you recommend me to be at 11,5A ~ ?? put much more electrolyte ? Go back to 6 cells with less electrolyte ? making a pwm circuity ? (here is my simple design : )

Can i esperate good economies on my small engine with 60L/h ?

Best regards.

Very nice pictures indeed, It is good to see pictures of a project actually in a car and hooked up..

I wish you the best, and maybe someone will answer your post with help for the question you asked.

I also will be watching this post.

Hi Jay and wildman,
Thanks for your congratulations Jay.
Wildman, i haven't find any datasheet for the irf42n or irfn42 :? Are you sure about the reference of your mos ?
Can you recommend me any other kind of mos i could get easyly in france and one that will not burn at 10-15 amps ?

Best regards.

Hi adam.

I haven't tested my arrestor, but in fact, on diesel engine there is no backfiring. So it is just in place "for the fun".

The car is just my testing car. In france it is realy inexpensive : ~500 to 1000 € (for a very nice one).

The weekend i drive a 89' chevrolet Camaro RS : It's a V8 5Liters powered. In france it's very rare and the engine sound is magic. I love this car. If i notice some economies results on The BX, i put a serie cell in my Cam. But i don't know how to deal with the oxygen sensor :? Should i let it, or is there a thing happening this hydroxy combustion ?

wildman any idea for the transistor ?

Best regards.

Hello everybody, hello sdc77 ;)

I am french too, and I work on electrolysis on french forum with sdc77.

For your information, I use IRL3202. It's a 48A MOS, with a small internal resistor, and the price is very small.
By security, the best is to mount the transistor on a dissipator.

You might try an RFP50N06.
Its rated at 50 Amps and 60 Volts.

Also, A Good Heatsink is needed for All Mosfets.
If you Email Me, the Word "ELECTRONIC" MUST appear in the Subject Line.

if you really want to switch high currents you could also look into solid state relays, they are a bit expensive, but they can hande HUGE current loads. The setup looks great by the way, best of luck.

here are some that can handle around 100 amps

hi
very good MOSFET is low level N chanel IRL 3803.
this transistor is able to swich 120 A.
to drive this FET you need just 5V square impulses.
but be careful if you drive a FET by square impulses
which are not sharp enough then even 120 A FET
can burn during switching only 5A.
my recommendation-drive any FET by simple driver
ICL 7667.
this circuit can handle with TTL input signal and sharpes
slow rising or slow faling impulses.

High voltage Transistor?

Postby Dan Dan » Sun Feb 05, 2006 3:21 pm

Hey all, im looking for a transistor that can handle very high voltages (like in the 130v range). not too woried about the amps.. im going for high voltage, low amperage...
Thanks.

Also might note that i would like to apply 3 different frequencies, at 3 different voltages so that i have a wave form that looks something like this:
| |
| || |
| || || |_
with out all of the "unevenness".

thanks again.

somthing got messed up on that last post...
im trying to make a wave form just like the one that you see in the last post, exept it is flipt around, so that is goes "lowest to highest".

sorry for the multiple posts, the server was being funny for a while there.

Try http://www.Digikey.com Thats where I go for my electrical needs. 130volts is actually not high for a transistor. For 130volts I think a mosfet would be better suited. I would stay away form scrs if you want to do frequency tests. They are much better as just an electrical "switch".
