More plates in the cell will allow you to push more amperage. If you have sufficient surface area for the amperage you're using, then you don't want to waste money and time on more plates. In that case you want more cells to divide the voltage further.

No one can really tell you what the perfect number of plates is, you just have to feel your way along there. I should think that with the amount of plates you have, that 60 amps should not be a problem.

I bought this off of e-Bay. Not sure exactly what it is or what it's for. But I just got it working. Needed a fuse and wire to plug it in. Home Depot rules. Anyway, it's strange to say the least. The ouput adjust knob turns round and round several times before it stops. But before I can even use it I have to have my volt meter hooked up to it, then turn the PS on and slowly turn the knob till I get some volts. I get 38.88VDC. That's the max I can get. Then I have to turn it off. Then hook it to one of my tanks, turn it back on and my volts are 1.45VDC so then I turn it to the right and my volts go up a bit and I can hear the PS making some noise and my amps start to go up. The max volts at 15amps is about 3.33 on one tank. I just used the one that didn't leak for my test. At 15amps which is the max for this I guess I started hearing things getting warm if you know what I mean. It's got a big heat sink for some type of resister I'm thinking and a huge coil. The coil never got warm at all but the big heat sink on the back got pretty hot. I ran it for about 10 minutes at 15amps. It also has a PC board with some electronics on it and that gets me to thinking that this unit might be good for doing my frequency modulation experiments which is really what I want to be doing. Here's some pics. Let me know if I'm overloading this with pics. Any info anyone can give me on this would be great. It took me about an hour of playing with this contraption to get it to do anything. But I like it. It's cool.

When I was testing with that tank at first I had the fluid level just over the plates and around 10 amps I was starting to get water vapor so I added more distilled water. My amps didn't change at all. So I filled it almost to the very top. Still the same. It should have diluted the electrolyte and brought my amps down. Why not?

I will have to run some experiments when I get time to test that theory. But I'd think the bubbles would have a hard time releasing from sharp edges and corners. They may form faster there but probably release much slower as well? -I'd have to test to be sure though. Maybe you can report some comparative results with real measurements to the group since you appear to have put in some time on this already Keaton?

Brad, I just posted my new set of pictures. I have not yet gotten around to adding text but I will. It shows the snorkels installed and the temporary bubbler I'm going to use with 5 legs coming off of it.

I show some pics of firing it up with the lids off and 1/2 way full of water, just to see it "sing" and of course get my fix for the evening.

I have a lot more work to do but these little boxes seem to be doing quite well indeed. Much better then my first Walmart containers did. I can say that with confidence.

I hope this new design is something that will help you guys. I always try to do things in a simple and reproducible way so that anyone else who wants to try these experiments, can do so with ease. If not well then at least it's fun to see how I'm abusing so many items for uses which they were not originally intended!
