The wrong quick way to get better gas mileage

Postby Scott » Sun Aug 28, 2005 12:29 am

I got bored. I don't have any money so I just looked around the garage. This little thing helps though. I'll build a better one soon. For the record, I think I could buy all the stuff for this one for under $10 and have enouigh coffee to last me a few weeks to boot. Takes about 5mph off hooked up loosly to the air intake under cruise control. I do know that it is not the right way to do it but I had to see this method for myself.

Here it is

By the way, blog things like this are I think the best way to show this kind of stuff. makes it easier.

240,000 miles on it. Taking it to 250,000 and rebuilding it anyway.

Where' s the edit button? I was going to add that you're probably right though. People who drive along the beach in Cali where I live out there have problems over time because of the salt in the air. However, it takes a while. In the winter, anyone in Ohio will tell you that they flood the streets with salt and it definetly gets in the air so it can't be too bad. Although, this time there's no filter to try and catch it. I didn't really think that this would give off that much of a problem though. Guess I'll have to start using red devil lye or something.

Did you measure how much amps need your booster?
Did you instal some electronic device between O2 sensor and computer. ?

Easy guys, a little tact please. First of all, if you noticed I'm also in the middle of painting a classic corvette. Even if you use a mask, that dust and paint will kill you. I'm not worried about it. It would take about 10 years for me to be affected by the salt in that little container anyway.

I do, to a certain extent, know the risks.

It takes about 5 amps. I didn't mess with the o2 sensor. If I was messing with a little 4 banger I might have bothered. There's no where near enough parahydrogen in that thing to worry about something like that.

I have hooked nitrous up to things without messing with the o2.

A straight 6 out of a Jeep has a famous rep for lasting through anything. And I have done worse to this jeep and many other vehicles than hook a little dodad up to it. I don't claim to know everything about this but I do know this. As long as you start with a solid heavy engine, there's a lot you can do before hurting it.

If you noticed, I did say it was the wrong way. I do plan on improving it.

The unit lasted about 75 miles before it stopped working. I was using tap water, salt and rods that were not SS. the rods and the water got so gooped up that it simply would not react anymore.

Next, I'll buy SS rods and try it again with red devil lye.

IF anything, this will serve to inform those people who just joined and are asking repetitious questions. I know they are bugging you all.

So, keep the critizism coming and lets have fun with this.

In one of these threads Bob wrote that using salt produces chlorine gas. I would think that it would have some negative effect on the engine. Maybe do some damage, maybe lower preformance or both.
