Here is my new box. It is 30 x 48 and sets a lot lower. Now I can work with my sand in style :)

My visit to the foundry here in Mount Joy today, proved to be very exciting. I got to see the how the professionals do it in the real world :) While I was there, I asked if I might have a casting of their wooden sand rammer. The task proved to be a bit more difficult than I thought it would be, since they were set up for entirely different things. The split cast mold was used to produce this guy ...it turned out quite well didn't it :)

My next attempt at sprucing up my foundry, was to make a flipping extension on the front. I was going to attach this to the front of my box so that I could easily flip my flasks. It will be my first attempt at lost foam process castings.

I had my wife helping me since the darn flask was sooooo heavy. Here she is finishing up a bit of the sand on top while I was adding metal to the furnace.

I'd say we're about ready... what do you think? :)
