Yeah, I think the rectifier should go before the multiplier, if that's what you were refering to. Otherwise, it looks like most other multiplier ciruits I've seen.

ah, a valid point! much easier to find a rectifier built for 110V. anyone take a stab at this? if my 110 invert is rated @ 200 watts, that means it'd output 1.8 amps....1.8 amps divided by three is just over half an amphere.....is this going to charge up the caps in any amount of reasonable time?

basically, i am charging as large of a bank of 330V capacitors as possible, probably in the 25-30 qty range. each cap is 120uF, so @ qty/25, thats 3000uF @ 330V.

It's not the Current it supplies that will make any difference, even the voltage doesn't mean squat. It all depends on the resistance and te capacitance.

t=RC. so one time constant is equal to the resistance of the circuit (in Ohms) multiplied by the capacitance (in Farads). Multiply this by 5 to get the total time to charge up a capacator in a circuit.

So current and voltage really have no or little bearing on how fast your cap bank charges.

damn, you see- i had googled everything i could think of, wondering if there was a formula for how long it would take to charge the cap bank. so i would have to hook up all thirty caps in parallel, measure the resistance of the circuit then apply to the formula? humm. im going to have to find someone with a good multimeter.

Well, from memory it's only the first part of the circuit you have to worry about. basically from the inverter to the end of the cap bank as you would have a switch to trigger the discharge into the coil. So if you can make the charging stage as low resistance as possible, you will be able to decrease the charging time.

Now with how the caps are setup being wired in series in the multiplier circuit, this will also lower the capacitance while increasing the voltage. Now due to the decrease in capacitance, the charging time is reduced again, but also the final punch that the cap bank can deliver. I suppose this is ok if you are using the multiplier to charge a parralel cap bank, as the multiplier only really steps up the voltage but then you still have the problem of the time to charge the parrallel bank. And in this case you would be increasing the resistance again. Humm.

At this stage it makes me think that the flyback would be the better option, as long as the secondary coil doesn't have a huge resistance........
