I had a BIG EXPLOSION LOOK IN MY PROJECT PAGES

Anyone doing these electrolysis experiments is taking there life and anyone next to them, life in there hands.the explosion was so big it damn near blow my off my feet and it was twice as loud as it was big.I was lucky came out unscaved and no one was with me.This thing had been running off and on all day, no sign of trouble. Then about 9 o clock turned on one last time before I went in and boooooom.What I think happened is the water level got below the + and - terminals on the cell and possibly sparked there.So be very careful doing this stuff I cant even explain how dangerous that explosion was.

There goes one good & expensive electrolyzer. What could actually goes wrong still a question mark? Where were you during the explosion? There must be some spark happens inside your electrolyzer. How did you connect last plates with terminal? From latest postings, I remember you mentioned about 14A at high voltage. 14A produce very much heat which could have melted acrylic casing. Plate and connection terminal might have moved from its position causing spark which ignited the gas.

I really feel very sorry to hear this incident from you. Don't give up your hope. Check through what could possibily might cause the explosion. We need your data to prevent the same thing happen to others.

Tj old mate, sorry to hear of your disaster. Such a shame after all the work you have put in, which I must say looked the bees knees, an excellent job and quite expensive. A hard lesson to learn but some good comes out of all mistakes that being that you have taught us all to be vigilant in all areas.

What a bummer Dude!! There are so many design aspects when experimenting with different designs that are unpredictable. I put all the connections outside the cell sealed with o-rings but I'm sure there is aspects of my design that leave lots to be desired. Hope you get back on the horse Sir! Don't know what I'd do if faced with the same situation. (guess it depends if wifey found out about it). Wayne

tj, glad to hear no one was injured. Thanks for letting us know what happened and stressing the importance of safety.

I am ashamed to say it, but I accidentally torched the BBQ grill's thermometer and the vinyl cover after starting a heated wood chips experiment, but after a long time, I did not follow proper safety procedure. Fortunately I isolated the experiment away from combustibles "just in case", so damage was minimal.

In my case the lesson learned was don't leave an experiment that requires constant supervision. Peace.
