Low Voltage Electrolysis Questions

Great to see alot of inspired people at the moment!

I would really appreciate if someone could help me please

I need some factual answers to the questions on low voltage electrolysis. Web Links to information would be appreciated.

1st Question

Why is 1.24 volts the lowest you can go? can someone tell me atomically in detail what happens during this potential difference

this is my guess.......

the electron bonding no matter how much electrolyte and closest spacing you have can never pull away from it's new molecular structure even when changed by the electrolyte?

2nd question

Why do you need a large electrode surface area for producing more gas.

Why can't you just use a few stainless steel pipes and produce just as much gas as in a large electrolyzer that uses the same volts amps per series cell.

Is it because their is limit to how fast water can replace the outgoing gases or is it to do with efficiency or heat?

3rd question

I had a thought

why can't we use a graphite electrode and a stainless steel electrode such as active 430 grade and already have a head start potential of around 1 volt and then only have to apply another .24 volts for electrolysis to occur? What a amazing efficiency if this is true!!!

see this chart http://www.corrosion-doctors.org/Aircra ... ri-fig.htm

these electrodes are both inert, so there not going to be consumed!

sorry about the questions they have been bugging me for a while.

I have a book coming from a state library titled fuel from water should be interesting.

you can view the book here http://www.lindsaybks.com/bks/hydrogen/

Thanks for your time

Thanks for you reply Bob

I think the breasts on your pic could be little bigger don't you? ha-ha

I expected steam/water vapor to be a problem with this unit I am making, so I am hoping running it through a largish bubbler should condense it so it will solve this. If there is still steam/water vapor I can condense it further with the various apparatus as you could imagine.

I see your point exactly and thanks for pointing that out about the water vapor, yes these non combustible gases will definitely effect the burn rate and needs to be a pure mix.

also I do think a set up like Frank Roberts (hoaxster or genuine?) if you rember him? His injectors is a must, as precise hydrogen/oxygen port injection for optimal power and efficiently is a necessity in running a large ICE as allot can be sucked in and wasted. chances are you will have to store some psi for exceleration purposes in a low voltage hydrogen on demand system.

what I have roughly calculated is a 50cc engine should run on 1litre per minute of hydroxy gas from the electrolyser. I am looking at getting one of those pocket rockets a mini 50cc 4 stroke chopper to test it on.

Anyway thanks for the input, please if there is anyone else who can further comment on my Questions in any more detail or give some links to information on the net that would be great!

Hi again

just something that popped into my head  I don't know if people have seen video footage of Daniel dingle? Some of it is very impressive showing the amount of gas produced.

You know how I speculated on the SS and graphite arrangement above.Well Daniel Dingle put a test light across the cell and it lit up but there was no gas production obviously he probably had the cell under 1.24 volt and then he applied some battery voltage and wow did that gas come of ! Maybe he is using this sought of low voltage electrolysis but with different material? I know that benoit has written him off but there still might be some truth to it?

also he was running it through a extra radiator to condense the steam/water vapor. I think this is very interesting and really lets the cat out of the bag so to speak but it's all here say until I get my but into gear and experiment.

he said in similar words I think.....that it was so easy nothing complecated about it, he could not patent it.

:?:

so you are saying that when my cell was getting hot it was to much current. it was a 64 plate -+-+-+ stagered an busses welded on the sides. they were 6x6 plates with the busses welded at 3 inches or in the middle i drilled holes through the side of the box [3/4 plexa] an used 1/4 inch ss bolts for the leads to hook to. they were 3 inches under the water line.the plates were 1/16 apart.
i hook it to a battery charger at 2 amps an it would take 45 seconds to get the leads so hot you could not touch them. at 40 amps about 30 seconds an direct draw off a 12v battery it took about the same 30 seconds this was why i didnt get a flow reading. i was using welding cable for my jumpers.

thanks for the reply, you explain things very well sometimes it takes a long time for me to see what is going on. this design looked like the one, i had read what you wrote about 1/8 inch an for some stuiped reason i wanted to try 1/16 first.
i am getting so busy putting corn in that my time is going to be limited for a new design. oil effects the farm more than most people relize when we start pumping water to grow the crops with the gas price the way it is. it is going to cost 200.00$ a day times 100 days, times 20 wells an that is why i started this idea, i dont think i will get it done this year. again thank you very much bob
