My ss came out of slide through cash drawrs in gass stations. Don,t know what geade but it was hard to saw up. SS nuts and bolts came from Home Depo.

Chances are the stainless steel you're using is low grade. Is it magnetic? I would be surprised if 300 series stainless found itself into a cash drawer application.

Next issue with something like this is the Voltage across your Plates.
I should write : the voltage across the Easiest Path for the electrons to
travel.
If you have 12 V connected to plate+ | then space | space | space |
etc till | 0 V. you may think that this is splitting up the voltage
to say 2 Volts across each plate.
You probably are getting 12 Volt potential pushing the current straight
from the 12 V plate to the 0 V plate because you do not have any barrier
to stop this from occurring.
[ I may be wrong , you can correct me if so ]
To get a true series Cell you can not allow leakage of current passed
any of the middle plates.
That means the middle plates need to be sealed around their edges
and bottoms.
If you had just 2 Volts across the plates , I doubt you would get this
kind of reaction. You will get conduction through Tap water [ due
to all the impurities in it ] but proper distilled water should not conduct.

:D To Mark in Aus. I started out with 16 plates 21/2 x 41/2" that wanted to pull 60 amps. Almost burned out my alt. Don't know how to mesure volume of gass made but it sure did bubble a lot. That was when I went to 6 plates. This was before I knew about pwm's. I was going to use a var. resister in line. Frank

Oh silly me , this is a Parrallel unit.
Then you need to look at the spacing between plates.
Try making gap wider. Yes PWM will work, but will need to be pretty hefty
I mean big current to handle your current set up.

 What is the dif. between a series and a parrallel cell??? I have a set up of + and - plates with 1/16 " spacing. I do not understand most of the eletronic stuff. I am more on the macanical side.

lfpavairy,

hmmm.....think about yer question
...paraelle----serries-----
-+-+-+- / +-+-+-+
-+-+-+- / -+-+-+-

The confusion you may be expieriencing is that most ppl around here associate serries as isolated and paraelle as flooded. (include'n me) but probably needs to be addressed for future clarification.
