I was lucky enough to find a Variable
DC supply and this made things much easier to understand.
- Effectively raising the voltage across each cell will push out more
Hydroxy.....But there is a downside..... The efficiency will reduce.
I suspect that is why the differences between the lower No.'s of cells
is different to 6 and 7 cells. The efficiency down on the lower No.'s is
dropping so rapidly.
-
Another great variable is the Gap between plates.
- you could spend many months working out the optimum there. The
problem being the bubbles of Hydroxy Pushing away the water and
so reducing effective surface area of plates. What works well at low
current and low yeild of Hydroxy will be having all sorts of trouble when
pushed at higher currents.

I have uploaded some pictues into the project pages and described what I have been playing/experimenting with.

I have two questions regarding my series cell.

1. The biggest downfall of this design is the difficulty of collecting the gas. I want to be able to collect the gas and run it through a bubbler so I can do some flow tests and have a play with the hydroxy. Is the best way to do this just to place the cell into a sealed container? Wouldn't all the space inside the container me a little unsafe when the whole thing is full of hydroxy?

2. I got some wierd results when testing the currents and voltages over a different number of cells. Here is a table showing the results I got:
Image
There is a large jump in current when going from six down to five cells (or going from 1.9v per cell to 2.2v). There is also a corresponing jump in production which would be expected with the higher current.

I'm lost here, I though electrolisis began as low as 1.25v, can someone explain why there is a jump in current and production when going from 1.9v to 2.2v?
