Chemical Reduction Hydrogen Production

Well, I've let the Al + HCl bath alone for a while and I think the brown sludge is AlO. What I reckon is happening is that the AlCl is attacking the oxide layer like NaOH does and the water in it is reacting with the fresh Al underneath. Humm, might need to use less water and more HCl.

Another thing I've seen, I may have said it before, is that there is also a sky blue and green stuff mixed in with the brown sludge. I wonder what it is? Magensium perhaps? I know they alloy Al and Mg together for use in coke cans.

Aye, that's why I'm trying to figure out a way to contain the gas and convert it to something less deadly before I go much further. Might have to make a few more chambers and bubblers and hook it up with some hydroxy, burn it, then bubble it so it becomes HCl again.

I was also thinking about the possible dangers of adding ammonia to the AlCl3 as I'm a bit worried that it could make Nitrogen Trichloride which is a rather volitile explosive gas. I always wondered what was made when I took a pee after mum had cleaned the dunny.

I'm also looking at making a H torch seeing that I'm pretty much wasting all this H that is being made.
