Yeah, multipliers are a really interesting idea. I remember reading of a gun from amazing1.com that could do similar things to a tesla coil using a multiplier instead. Way over priced and you can get the plans free anyway. Found it here

I think they might have an article on coil guns too.

Why are you gonna need a multiplier anyway? The charging circuits in the cameras will go to the right voltage of the caps anyway. Or are you gonna wire the caps in series for a higher voltage with a smaller capacitance for a quicker recharge time?

im gonna build my own charge circuit that will be able to supply .5A or greater using a static inverter to a bridge rectifier then voltage multiplier.

i just did the math, 30 120uF Caps in parallel is 196 Joules!



also working on an idea, a solenoid-actuated optically fired multistage coil gun. using a revolver-like mechanism, a solenoid with a non-ferrous tip accelerates projectile towards and into barrel, where a break-beam apparatus automatically energizes the coil.

That's a nice idea, I like it. Actually, come to think of it, if it's optically triggered, you will only have a fraction of the time the coil is energised, therefore the caps won't fully discharge. and with the way t=RC curves work, you will still get the main punch from the cap bank yet cut down on recharge time. Also having multiple cap banks for each stage, if you have multiple coils, you should gain a fair bit of recharge time between each shot.

Another thing I was thinking of was have a mini-gun design with multiple barrels and cap banks for each. Or having multiple cap banks for the one coil in a single barrel design but only use one bak at a time.
