Putting a wind turbine on a car would be like putting a parachute on it, might make for an interresting regenerative braking system.

How about a wetsuit with Peltier cells in it that you wear while cooling off in the water and generate electricity at the same time. :)

thats a good way to put it panthro,been wandering that same thing ,i just havent any knowlege of wind turbines,lots of wind under the hood and lots of heat on the hood,wander if its possible to turn a hood into one of those heat exchange power sources?

Thinking . .

Wouldn't a Turbo charger used to generate electricity and at the same time used to boost gas intake in the engine more successful to that application !? ..

It would create a certain amount of back pressure to the exhaust, but since it helps to boost engine efficiency, it would in a way, average things up .. :?

And what about a Tesla turbine instead of the usual turbo .. It would have much less back pressure and supposedly a very good efficiency ..
That could drive an electric generator to drive in it's turn an electrolysis device or something usefull ..

I was thinking, if your vehicle was set up right, a shop guy could throw another belt pulley on your crank and you could run another alternator for this...

You could also remove the voltage regulator from the alternator and create a circuit that would divert all access electricity to your electroliser.

I'm sure it's not as easy as all of that but it seems a little easier than creating a whole new portion of a system just to get a small amount of hydrogen.

With the second idea, all the stuff is already there except for one or two homemade circuits.

Yeah, I looked into this and it's very, very do-able. There are already units that bypass solid state regulators and use the rest of the available energy produced by the alternator. You don't even have to take the regulator off.

Only one circuit left, the one that skims off the access and diverts it to an electroliser. You have to replace the diodes in the alt to be able to handle the extra current but that's fairly cheap.

It appears that some factory alts can produce up to 7200 watts for a period of time but the batteries wont sustain it. You don't need that much to produce a little boost of hydrogen.
