In years past it was possible to have the electron gun in a picture tube replaced - back in the days when picture tubes were very expensive. It's a process that requires professional skill and equipment and is rarely done nowadays.

It is possible though to rejuvenate a picture tube that has become dim due to age. Ask around at the TV shops - especially one that is run by an old timer who knows these things.

You might be able to find a "brightener" transformer that is installed at the picture tube also. Again, gotta find an old timer who remembers these things.

The new flat displays, lcd or plasma, are entirely different. The old television sets with picture tubes are about to become dinosaurs!
