The problem is S.S. screen or mesh is not cheap or easy to come by. If you do find a low cost place to get it let me know. Most of the time we use heavy grit sand paper, to score a "x" pattern on our plates to give a similar desired effect . The style of electrolyser we are using needs to be sealed and screen or gause is not , most of the plates are really close together , and loose wire mesh could short the circut.

I short I not saying that it can't be done, or there is not a place for it , it would be difficult to incorperate into my setup. The electrolyser would likly need to be a parallel unit .Happy Testing.

Hey Rodney..... I guess the problem of shorting could be sorted out by placing fibre glass partitions or plastic partitions like the ones used in lead acid battries to separate the plates you could possibly use some of those from used junked batteries!

Non woven Fibre glass partitions are porous enough to let the generated hydrogen to the surface of the electrolyser.

You could probably use any other metal mesh other than SS and electroplate it with nickel to give corrosion resistance.

might be worth a try but you would have to be very specific with the electrolite. I remember reading somewhere that KOH is reactive with fiberglass of some sort. -rodney

Go to ebay and search for 'SS wire mesh'...I remember seeing 304 for sale recently.

need to check out the fibre glass reacting with KOH...Thanx for the info.

I remember reading somewhere that Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide make up for similar kind of generation

Could use Sodium Hydrox instead or does this react with fibre glass aswell.....any suggestions?
