Project Description:
Well I did it. I bit the bullet and took on a 35 thousand dollar project! That's 35 large for those of you who can't count! It was the only way to pull this off if I wanted a shop.

My goal (I have said this quite often) would be to one day have the ability to support my family from my work in Clean Energy Technologies (OUPower). I never dreamed of being rich... only to be able to make a living doing this for the rest of my life. I'm sure that it's going to take a lot of hard work and an even larger amount of luck to pull that off. So perhaps I can appeal to some of you for help in that area? I will be adding MANY pictures as I go so please bare with me as I slowly upload them and document my progress. If at any point you feel the urge to help me out and donate something toward the completion of my shop, I would be most grateful! http://oupower.com/PayPal/donate.php

Thank you for stopping by to take a look! I hope you enjoy what I've done with the place! For those of you interested in knowing who did the construction work, it was: Pine Creek Structures
2863 Hershey Road
Elizabethtown, PA.

I can't stress enough how nice a job these guys did for me. They allowed me to use special attic trusses that I designed specifically for the shop and they were willing to work with me on all of the fine details surrounding construction. This is going to be my baby, my workshop for life, so I needed to go with a company that I trusted to do the job right. My hat is off to Pine Creek for all of their hard work and dedication to a job well done!

Sorry I was bad and didn't get any pictures during the middle stages. I thought of it after it started getting dark.

If you click the picture to maximize it you will see that all of the trusses are now secured to the structure. -Awesome job by the 8 guys doing the work.

There are a few days in between here that I failed to get pictures. I worked my tail off getting the water and electric in. That was quite a difficult job. I had to ensure that I had everything measured properly and sealed up right. I had a splice in the middle of my water line and had to ensure that it didn't leak. Let's see ...oh yeah I was praying that my ditch came into the shop at the right spot so that it worked with the door and stairs that were going to be on that wall. I was trying to come into the wall just beyond where the big door would be. It was my hope that the stairs would end before my sink!

Big gamble but the payoff was huge if I could get it right. I would have the human door, the stairs, the water, electric and garage door all on 1 wall! That saves me a TON of space in the shop that would have otherwise been taken up by doors or stairs etc...

We'll have to see if I got it right. I'm praying at this point!

The guy did an EXCELLENT job with the stone and so I believe in the end this was definitely worth the extra thousand dollars. If you're going to dump some extra money into a structure the foundation is a great place to do it. I should never have any problems with my slab (which is finished in this picture) in the future. I have about 12 inches of stone and 5 or 6 inches of concrete. Everything was packed then backfilled then tamped tightly before the pour. The guy really did a nice job on my concrete.

I climbed upstairs to get some pictures because I was so excited to show everyone my upper room! The trusses again were designed for a 50 lb per square foot loading over the entire upper room. The ends beyond the knee wall were specifically designed for storage loading.

You'll also notice a 2x4 going across at the 4' high mark. That is NOT part of the structural design. I had those little pieces added during the truss construction. It cost me an extra $110 for all of those to be added in at the time of construction.

Can you guess what they're going to be for?

My friend Brad standing up to give you some perspective. You can walk out to the end of the knee walls and NOT hit your head. -Well as long as you're undre 6' 2" tall.

3 days later and the stairs are in now. Let's hope I got the electric and water in the right spot so that they won't be too tight under the stairs! I'll find out soon enough when I finish installing them.

The stairs are in! woohoo!!!
