Hi Walt,
Result of using mothballs as fuel additives in my car (Mercedes-Benz 190E UK model). I have added 4 mothballs in fuel tank (12.1 gallon tank capacity). Total run was 247 miles before refueling. I do different calculation based on amount spend per kilometer. Mix drive city and highway.
Without using mothballs
Average amount per kilometer drive: 0.18 cents
With mothballs
Average amount per kilometer drive: 0.21 cents
Yes, there is no error in my calculation. I lost efficients of 14.29%. Maybe 4 mothballs reduces the efficiency level. I should reduce to 2 mothballs on next testing to check efficiency. Most of the time I drive cars during week ends. It took 2 weeks to refill new batch of fuel. Could it be fuel evaporated during 2 weeks period because of mothball additives? I could feel added power in acceleration and engine smooth running during the entire testing.
Yesterday, I have changed to different fuel additives. Poured in 60mL of acetone (nail polish remover) after fuel refilling (43.30 litre). Rule of thumb 1.5mL acetone for 1 litre fuel. I drove about 200 miles mostly highway drive and fuel meter shows more than half tank full. Still quarter tank to go before refueling.
