We're always looking for sources of parts for our projects so,
I thought a list of free parts sources would be useful. (Electronic or other)
I start this post with old microwave ovens parts.
Usually the magnetron burns out but the rest of the parts are still good.
Large stepup or stepdown transformer about 18 times.
15kvolt diode. (need over 7 volts to test it because of high voltage drop)
0.9 mfd 2000v capacitor (non-polarized so it can be connected either way)
2 or more micro switches in door.
120 volt fan. and light.
Also front panel could be used as a time control for anything electrical. (Or dissmanteled for parts)
Magnetron contains 2 large ring magnets,
Magnets could be used to build N-Machine http://www.rexresearch.com/depalma/depalma.htm
Also magnetron has a temperature sensitive switch mounted on it's side,
which turns things off if the magnetron gets to hot.
Not to forget all the screws and other hardware.
Word of warning, make sure the capacitor is discharged before disassembling,
Also note that these transformers can be leathal, 2000 volts from 120 volts.
I heard 2000 volts is used for electric chair executions.
I think mentioning one appliance per post, and what parts it can provide is the best way to do it.
Leaves room to add other components not mentioned, and possible uses for some of the components.
Look forward to hearing of other free sources of parts.
Till Later Harold.
