This gives a better understanding on how a full wave bridge rectifier works.I also wanted to see if the gif. file would work in our projects page.


This diagram shows basic DC layout from transformer's secondary.


Well this is the same transformer, but I decided to unwind the stranded wire secoundary. Now my secondary is wound with # 10 single solid copper. Yea boy, That was so fun,everyone who has not experienced a rewind like this should by all means give it a whirl. The experience was like passin a kidney-stone. But I got it done!


I route the secondaries new wire, up to the top of the transformer and secured the wires with wire ties. Crimped on new spade connectors on the end of the wires.I couldn't wind any more wire onto the transformer. the #10 wire is tightly wound and I had to force the last few turns thru the secoundary window. And I came up short of my 21.216 AC output. What I have is 20.2VAC when rectified will give me 28.56 VDC. Sorry guys with this transformer I'll get no 30V DC. Now on with the 28VDC variable power supply.


I wanted to provide this information to those interested in rewinding their own secondary.  AWG = American Wire Gauge size from 0000 to 40
Dia-mils = Diameter in mils (1 mil = .001 inch)
TPI = Turns Per Inch [Note that this is for BARE WIRE. Insulation thickness varies]
Dia-mm = Diameter in millimeters. This was included to help when dealing with metric Coilers.
Circ-mils = Cross sectional Area in Circular Mils. ( circular mils = diameter in mils squared )
Ohms/Kft = Ohms Per 1,000 ft.
Ft/Ohm = Number of feet required for 1 Ohm of resistance
Ft/Lb = Feet Per Pound
Ohms/Lb = Ohms Per Pound
Lb/Kft = Pounds Per 1,000 feet
*AMPS = Conservative Amp Rating based on 750 circulare mils per Amp
MaxAmps = Maximum allowable current based on 500 circular mils per Amp. Do NOT exceed this rating.

43   2143               .0022                This is magnet wire, And because I could not obtain the proper winding material (using the insulated single strand 10 gauge) I could not get the amount of turns I needed wound on the secoundary. The Plactic insulation took up the space I needed for just 2 more turns. This will also hurt the transformer,s power transfer efficiency.I will continue on with the build, but when I can obtain the 10 gauge magnet wire,I foresee another kidney-stone passin.I will closely check the transformers windings at full output to see if the secondary heats enough to melt the plastic insulation.
